JANUARY

EXHIBITION

Art Nouveau Toast with Wine (26th September 2018 to 10th February 2019)

Art Nouveau glass designed by famous artists and architects is exceptionally elegant and a beautiful part of Czech glassworks production around the year 1900. Wine cups decorated by cutting, engraving, gilding and painting are perfect examples of the culture of dining at the time.

Master Engraving of Glass (14th February to 14th April)

In cooperation with the Association of the Symposium of Engraved Glass. This borrowed exhibition, which summarises the results of the 7th International Symposium of Engraved Glass in Kamenický Šenov, presents the contemporary form of engraved glass in the design of prominent artists.

Silvered Treasures of Folk Piousness (16th April to 16th June)

Silver statues of saints were the centrepiece of rural chapels as well as of urban and rural households. They are graceful and made by a specific technique. They were also produced in Šumava. The exhibition is prepared in cooperation with the Catacombs Klatovy as an accompanying program of the 13th annual event of Baroque Jesuit Klatovy.

Glass Easter Eggs – program for children and adults where various techniques will be used to decorate glass Easter eggs that were made especially for this program in the Pavilion of Glass.

Glass or Your Life! (19th June to 22nd September 2019)

(Works of students from the Academy of Applied Arts in Prague – atelier of Professor Rony Plesl)

Yet another cycle of summer exhibitions dedicated to Czech and foreign glass schools, which will take place in the Pavilion, its garden and the corridors of the Jesuit dormitories (two-dimensional exhibits). This project belongs to our most prestigious university’s exhibition in the field of glass design and free art – the school’s students have been reaping prizes from all over the world. The exhibition will undoubtedly enrich the cultural program of Klatovy in the summertime.

ACCOMPANYING ACTIVITIES DURING THE EXHIBITION

Monday – 17th June – 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Pubic installation of the exhibition in the garden (Rony Plesl and the students)

Tuesday – 18th June – about 4:00 p.m.

Vernissage of the exhibition, tours with commentary and a lecture about design (Rony Plesl)

Wednesday – 26th June – 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Games with Glass – an activity to celebrate the last day of school – creations from glass and onto glass (painting on glass, reverse painting, production using beads, etc.). The event is also an accompanying programme of the project “A Common Road – Klatovy and Zwiesel“.

Alabaster Glass from Bohemian Forest (25th September to 17th November)

The cloudy foggy -looking alabaster glass from the Šumava (Bohemian Forest) Glassworks was produced from the second half of the 1830s roughly to the 1880s. It is one of the distinctive phenomena of Šumava glassmaking; its cut, painted or gilded decors is a charming document of the Second Rococo Style. Most glassworks of that time including the glassworks Johann Loetz in Annín produced these artefacts. The exhibition is prepared in cooperation with private collectors and museums from the Pilsen region.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

Glass Carnation – workshops will be prepared in cooperation with the Academy of Applied Arts in Prague (VŠUP)

Glass furnace (Zdeněk Kunc) – production of glass carnations and other objects inspired by the Klatovy carnation according to the design of VŠUP students and teachers. Furthermore, the workshops are arranged in cooperation with VŠUP for children and adults – production of various kinds of items related to carnations – models from beads, painting of various forms (templates) or engraving. The event is a commemoration of the fifth anniversary of the Pavilion of Glass opening.

NOVEMBER

Glass of Bořek Šípek (11th November 2019 to 10th February 2020)

The exhibition presents the glassworks created by the well-known artist and designer in many forms – free creation and designs, beverage and other glass. The exhibition is prepared in cooperation with his family and the Glass Studio Anežka.

DECEMBER

Saturday and Sunday – 30th November to 1st December – 10: a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The Magic of a Glass Gift

The art workshops prepared for the start of advent and are focused on the production of untraditional gifts made from glass and on decorative Christmas decorations and so on.
