June 22 – September 24, 2017 – Glass from Bratislava
This summer, the Pavilion of Glass, its gardens and the hallway of the Jesuit Dormitories belong to the young contemporary Slovak art of glasswork. Students of the Bratislava University of Fine Arts‘ Glasswork Studio under the guidance of their teacher, the famous Slovak glass artist Patrik Illo, brought their current works to Klatovy, some of which were created especially for this exhibition. It is a good opportunity to get acquainted with the contemporary trends of Slovak design and free creation. The exhibits can also be seen in the gardens of the Pavilion and in the hallway of the Jesuit Dormitories.
September 26, – November 12, 2017 – Glass in Lace
In the summer of 2016, the members of the Klatovy Lace Club were inspired by the Sumava glass at the Pavilion of Glass. Over the next months, they completed and prepared their work for this autumn’s exhibition. Thanks to the patience of the authors, the shapes and decors of the Art Nouveau glass were incorporated into the fine lace thereby revealing an entirely new dimension. Inside the Pavilion, you can compare inspiration and the resulting shape in the lace.
PROGRAMS
Thursday September 28, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Underpainting for the young and older
This includes a practical introduction to the technique of traditional Sumava underpainting on flat glass (according to templates for the less skilled painters). The motif of old Sumava underpainting was most often religious - Jesus Christ, the Virgin Mary and various Saints. Often it is Saint Florian, the guardian against fire, Saint Linhart, the guardian of cattle as well as the Czech patron Saint Vaclav. You will likely not become a master painter in just one day but you will surely take home a beautiful picture.
